RE-RELEASE OF EXPLOSIVE FILM SPOTLIGHTS CHRISTIAN KILLINGS IN TURKEY

Marks Anniversary of Slayings, Deep Cultural Divide in Nation

TULSA, OKLA. –March 15, 2011– Nolan Dean Films/Stuff of Earth Media has just re-released their powerful documentary, Malatya, a feature length film about the brutal killings of three Christians in Turkey in 2007. The film’s long awaited re-issue coincides with the April 18th anniversary of the tragic event.

To mark the anniversary, Malatya,’s producers are asking churches nationwide to join them in a global day of prayer for Turkey. They also ask pastors to present the film to their congregations as a way to raise awareness of the persecution Christians face today in that Muslim nation.

“There is a powerful need to expose these tragic deaths to the light and bring a healing within Turkey that touches believers and Muslims,” said Nolan Dean, Director of Malatya. “I ask pastors nationwide to mobilize their church for a special day of prayer for Turkey and to show this powerful film to their church body and loved ones. I believe Malatya is an amazing story of forgiveness and forbearance in tragedy and why we all need to unite together in prayer for the healing of the Turkish people.”

The story of Malatya traces the tragic killings of three Turkish believers in 2007 by five Muslim teens—a crime which sent shockwaves throughout Turkey and devastated Turkish Christians nationwide. The film also follows the men’s families in the aftermath of the murders and their decision to show God’s mercy despite the religious persecution they experience.

Since its release in 2009, Malatya has received rave reviews for its gritty portrayal of the tragedy as well as the deep cultural divide that now exists for many in Turkey today.

“Turkey has had to come to grips with the fact that Christians were martyred in the name of Islam,” says Steve Husmann, producer of Malatya. “I think many Muslims have been challenged with that awful truth and how they view their spiritual beliefs in the face of it. The tragedy of these murders has moved well beyond the singularity of one incident and into the consciousness of a nation. That’s where we pray they find healing and discover the truly transforming love of Jesus Christ.”

Malatya is today being re-released with brand new music, a new website, and other production changes. The film can be ordered online at www.Malatyafilm.com with free group licenses for churches available for the cost of a single DVD ($14.99). Producers are also offering packs of 20 DVDs for $100 to sell after the showing or as special gifts to attendees.

Love’s Mass Appeal

August 21st, 2009

by Philip Pfanstiel

Janette Oke went west with her novels about women settlers and struck gold. The eight novels she wrote comprised her first series and have also debuted as the first to the big screen.

Since the Love Comes Softly series was published Janette Oke has gone on to write over 75 books with sell of over 23 million copies. Her success highlights her ability to connect with her audience and provide women the strong characters, situations and struggles that everyone experiences sooner or later.

Oke has met with similar success as her novels were adapted and made into movies by Hallmark Channel and Michael Landon Jr. The first two movies starred Katherine Heigl (an A-list actress on TV’s Grey’s Anatomy and movies) as the matriarch of the series. Installments 3 thru 8 follow the continuing history of the family as seen through three generations of women.

While not skirting the tragedy, violence and harshness of the Wild West, the series takes a very soft brush to this often bleak landscape and has produced a realistic but kind portrait of the West. Oke even turns to her own family’s history as settlers in Eastern Canada for inspiration for the “Love Comes Softly” series. She also used her husband and sons as models for the strong but caring men that populate the series.

The Dove Foundation has given all of the first seven DVDs its approval for family viewing of 12+. While four of the seven even received approval for all ages (Volumes 1, 2, 6, & 7).

The Hallmark Channel will be broadcasting the first seven volumes of the series on September 5. You can also purchase the series in box sets or individually.

The Passion of the Christ: Still Changing Lives

March 15th, 2009

The Passion of the Christ DVD

Do you remember the first time you watched the Passion of the Christ?  I don’t… but I do remember the first time I watched it with unbelieving friends.  It was the fall of 2004, I had just moved to a Muslim country to share my faith, and everyone was talking about the Passion of the Christ.  Young people especially were asking such great questions about Jesus.

One night in that first month, some neighbors, who we were getting to know, invited us over to watch the Passion at their home(their idea!).  As we watched the film in that smoke-filled apartment, our neighbor and his roommates sat speechless as they witnessed the suffering of our Lord.  Our friend’s girlfriend was moved to tears watching Jesus respond in love to the woman caught in adultery.  We had great opportunities to share our faith that night.  You’ll have to read the whole story at our blog.

A few weeks after that, this girl decided to put her faith in Christ.  She is still walking with the Lord and has since led her sister to the Lord.  They’ve both shared their faith with many friends over the last 4 years and have even led some friends to Christ.  I had got to meet one of these girls a couple weeks ago.  I couldn’t help thinking back to that night in the smoke-filled apartment watching the Passion with this unlikely group of seekers.

We’re excited this month to offer you a special deal on this powerful film that God has used in amazing ways since it was released in 2004.   Experience Passion of the Christ again, or give it to a seeking friend.  We believe this powerful reminder of what Christ endured for us is a great tool to prepare your heart for Easter.  We’re offering the Passion of the Christ (retail $20) throughout the rest of March for only $7.99.
