Standing Firm is a story of God's purpose in pain, sadness, and experiencing Him through it.,

Dave, has just lost his wife and is working himself to death. He spends his days working construction and spends his days pouring over paperwork, continually running on fume. As bills pile up, Dave begins to fear losing his home. Blaming God for his wife's death, he decides he's finished with Church.

Steven, his son is a comitted Christian and has been watching with great concern. Along with his grandpa and best friend Maggie, Steven works to reach his father in any way he can. Despite his grieving, Dave begins to move in the right direction seeking an answer to the question that has been haunting him since his wife's death...WHY?

Standing Firm is a perfect film for our times as it deals with real issues and ministers to the question "Where is God" when life's worst events cloud our vision of Him.

1. Unfortunately, the Gospel was VERY watered down...

   The reason Christ had to die, was because of our sin. Rom. 3:23 says, "All have sin and fallen short of the glory of God." Rom. 6:23 says, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Rom. 5:8, "God demonstrated His love for us, that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." The movie left this entire portion of the Gospel out!! Man CANNOT be saved by simply "believing" in God. There has to be repentance of sin. Unfortunately, I would classify this movie as "easy believism." Salvation is wholly and completely dependent upon a repentance of sin. This movie hits, "God is love," but doesn't explain why. Please evaluate the movie against SCRIPTURE, not emotions or a movie production.Review by TrueReview

2. A fitting film for our times

   I watched Standing Firm and found it to have two components often lacking in Christian Films; namely authenticity and believable characters and dialogue. I feel like the people in the film could have been people I know. When one character comes to Christ, it's so classic to see him beating himself up because he couldn't lead his co-worker to Christ on his first day back to work since putting his faith in Jesus. I've seen new believers with that sense of "What I'm experiencing is real, why can't I just share it"? and the passion to do so.
   
   I pray that this film does great on DVD because it speaks to our times, dealing directly with God's providence and sovereignty in the flattening of the housing bubble and the economic crisis. I highly recommend this film.
